The Wu administration has withdrawn one other expensive construction project in the face of community opposition: the proposal to move the O'Bryant School to West Roxbury. The White Stadium fight shares some similar issues to the O'Bryant fight, with both in Roxbury and both projects faced unanswered questions about transportation & construction costs. The two projects also share broad opposition from the City Council, with Council President Louijeune joining her two fiercest critics on the Council, Flynn & Mejia, to call for a pause.
Should have clarified that i was just reacting to your line about it being a close vote. The Mayor allowed two Councilors to vote against her on this one. Like the GOP with Susan Collins. I think the O'Bryant move is relevant in that it was the start of a string of poorly crafted roll outs (followed by White Stadium and the tax rates) but, unlike the more recent pair, the O'Bryant proposal had almost no support (except me!).
Multiple councilors would have flipped were there a need for votes on the Mayor's side vis a vis White Stadium.

The O'Bryant move was proposed in June 2023 and withdrawn in February 2024. WBUR has a good timeline: https://www.wbur.org/news/2024/02/27/obryant-exam-school-move-west-roxbury-abandoned
