Has Boston's Voter-Approved 2021 Budget Reform Failed?

Today's Council vote isn't just a test for Mayor Wu's veto - it is also a test for the increased budget powers Boston voters approved for the Council in a 2021 ballot question

On the same ballot that City Councilors At-Large Michelle Wu and Annissa Essaibi George was something else - a binding ballot question that if approved would grant Boston’s City Council new budget powers. That question was approved by Boston’s voters in 2021. The third budget created under these new powers faces its last set of votes before the Boston City Council today, June 26, 2024, and a new question now faces that reform: is it working?
